BEIRUT - The Israeli army conducted at least four air strikes on the southern Lebanese city of Tyre on Wednesday, after issuing eviction orders. The first strike hit only about an hour after the warning. Tyre is one of the largest cities in south Lebanon, and the areas under Israeli threat are densely populated. The Unesco heritage-listed city is home to important sites, including an ancient castle.
Lebanon state media reported 17 Israeli raids on Beirut's southern suburbs, with six buildings destroyed and the vacated offices of a pro-Iran broadcaster hit. Six buildings were destroyed around the suburb of Laylaki, the National News Agency said, calling the raids "the most violent in the area since the beginning of the war".
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel had uncovered a plot by Hezbollah to attack his country through underground tunnels, using jeeps and missiles.
