JERUSALEM - US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Israel on Tuesday to launch another push for a ceasefire in the region.
Mr Blinken will meet Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, Yoav Gallant, the Israeli defence minister, and other officials on the first stop of a week-long Middle East visit that also includes Jordan and Qatar.
Diplomatic efforts have thus far failed to bring an end to the year-long Gaza war and its spillover conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.
Mr Blinken met with the Israeli Prime Minister today to again push for a truce in Gaza ahead of the US presidential election next week and called for more aid into the Palestinian territory.
A State Department spokesperson said after talks in Jerusalem that Mr Blinken “underscored the need to capitalise on Israel’s successful action to bring Yahya Sinwar to justice by securing the release of all hostages and ending the conflict in Gaza in a way that provides lasting security for Israelis and Palestinians alike.”
This was Mr Blinken’s visit to Israel today was his 11th since the Gaza war broke out.
