BEIRUT - A BBC journalist has been taken on a tour of the underground rooms of the Al-Sahel Hospital in Beirut, where Israel says Hezbollah keeps millions of dollars in cash and gold.
The BBC said that they were shown the morgue, where drawers were opened up, and that they were allowed to look in cupboards and boxes of equipment.
“Hospital staff are adamant that there is no hidden bunker,” Correspondent Orla Guerin said.
The hospital’s director, Fadi Alameh, earlier denied the Israeli accusations and invited the Lebanese Army to visit the site and check for the Hezbollah bunker.
Mr Alemeh told local media that the hospital had no links to Hezbollah or any other political group and that its underground rooms are used for performing surgery.
Mr Alameh is also a Lebanese lawmaker associated with the Shia Amal party, which is an ally of Hezbollah.
He added that the hospital was being evacuated despite Israel saying it would not strike the facility.
